Leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has underscored the significance of the 2020 polls hinting that the party is determined to police a single ballot box until counting is completed.

He assured that the political party’s grassroots is needed in this regard throughout the period of the elections.

According to him, the December polls is an epic one and the victory of the NDC rests on the shoulders of their grassroots members hence will be provided upon to ensure that they police every polling centre to prevent any form of rigging.

The NDC’s leader was speaking at a flag-raising ceremony to mark the 28th-anniversary of the NDC in Accra on Wednesday, 10th June 2020.

On protecting the ballot boxes and the need for vigilance to avoid any form of rigging, the former President said “All members of our grassroots, branches, we face an epic election this year and I want to salute our activists at the branch and constituency levels”, adding: “Our victory in this election is going to rest on your shoulders”.

“We are fighting at the national level even with the constraint we face as an opposition party to get the resources necessary for you to prosecute your work”.

“I wish to state emphatically that we’ll support you to police the poll right from the point of voting until the final results are declared. At every single level of the election, we’ll police the poll…we’ll be vigilant, nothing will escape our scrutiny, no ballot box will go out of our sight until all the votes have been counted, collated, accounted for and the results declared…”

Meanwhile, the NDC has accused the Electoral Commission of working together with the NPP to rig the elections in their favour.

The party insists there’s something fishy hence the electoral commission’s insistence of compiling new voters’ register and the use of only the Ghana Card and Passport as a means of identification during the compilation of the new voters’ register.

The NDC has assured the EC of resisting any attempt to compile a new voters register.
