Diella TekuNational Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has made a heartfelt plea to party members in the Upper East Region, urging them to set aside lingering divisions from the recent parliamentary primaries and focus on securing victory in the upcoming December 7 elections.
During a three-day visit to the region, Asiedu Nketiah addressed supporters in Naaga, with a special focus on the Navrongo Central Constituency, where tensions flared after the primaries. The race saw the incumbent Member of Parliament, Sampson Chiragia, lose his seat to Simon Aworigo, leading to clashes between their respective supporters. The rift threatened to undermine the party’s chances in the crucial elections.
However, Asiedu Nketiah emphasized that unity was paramount for the party’s success. He called on supporters of both Chiragia and Aworigo to put aside their differences and rally behind the NDC for the greater goal of winning in December.
“My message to Navrongo Central is simple: if we want to thrive, we must work together. If we choose division, we all suffer. After the primaries, the situation was tense, but I intervened, and I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made so far,” he said.
He highlighted that while the candidates themselves may be working towards reconciliation, their supporters on the ground were still entrenched in factionalism. “The problem is not with the individuals but with their followers. Sampson’s supporters say, ‘if not Sampson, no Simon,’ and Simon’s supporters say the same about Sampson. This has to stop,” Asiedu Nketiah warned.
The NDC chairman’s visit underscored the importance of solidarity, urging the party faithful to look beyond personal loyalties and focus on the collective mission of ensuring an NDC victory in the December polls. He reminded them that success at the polls would depend on their ability to unite and work as a team, regardless of past differences.
With the elections fast approaching, Asiedu Nketiah’s call for unity is a timely reminder of the stakes at hand and the critical need for cohesion within the party’s ranks in Navrongo Central and beyond.
