Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its decision to transfer the Saglemi Housing Project to private developer Quarm-LMI without engaging the traditional landowners of Ningo-Prampram. Mahama, who launched the project during his tenure, stressed that the NDC administration had secured the necessary approvals from local traditional authorities before initiating the development.
Speaking at a campaign event in Prampram, Mahama emphasized the importance of consulting the allodial landowners—those with ultimate ownership of the land—before altering the project’s status from a public to a private venture. “The NDC began this project with the full consent of the people of Ningo-Prampram. It’s essential that any changes respect the same process,” he stated.
He argued that the government’s recent negotiations with Quarm-LMI to complete the stalled project lacked transparency and proper engagement with the rightful landowners. “You cannot alienate the land without the permission and involvement of the Ningo people,” Mahama added, pledging to reassess the situation if the NDC returns to power.
Mahama’s remarks came as part of his broader campaign to address the socioeconomic needs of the Ningo-Prampram constituency, a key focus for his next administration.
