Diella TekuOn Sunday morning, a gas tanker accident at Gbawe Top Base in Greater Accra resulted in a dangerous liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) leak, creating a tense situation for local residents and emergency responders alike. The tanker, loaded with LPG, overturned and fell onto its side, triggering an immediate response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Complications arose during an attempted recovery of the tanker. As a bulldozer was used to lift the vehicle, the tank was accidentally punctured, causing a significant gas leak. This escalated the risk of a fire outbreak in the densely populated area, prompting GNFS firefighters to take rapid action.
Firefighters deployed foam concentrate to cool the leaking tank, working meticulously to control and disperse the gas vapors, reducing the chances of an explosion. The GNFS issued warnings to residents, urging them to avoid any open flames or heat sources while they continued securing the area.
In a complex operation that required careful coordination, the leaking LPG was successfully transferred to another tanker, mitigating the immediate threat. By midday, GNFS officials confirmed that the situation had been stabilized, bringing relief to residents who had been on edge throughout the morning.
