Mahama Slams Jubilee House for Alleged Role in Fake News Campaign

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has accused the Jubilee House of being the mastermind behind a systematic fake news campaign designed to discredit him and his political agenda.

Addressing a gathering at a mini-rally in the Asene Manso Akroso constituency of the Eastern Region on Tuesday, Mahama expressed concern over the role of the seat of government in spreading misinformation, particularly as the country gears up for the 2024 general elections.

Mahama’s allegations follow a recent controversy involving the Chief of Akyem Akroso, Nana Kwabena Ofori, who publicly refuted claims that he endorsed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during a recent visit. The Chief clarified his position, labeling reports of his endorsement as fabrications.

The former president seized the opportunity to criticize the Jubilee House, suggesting it has become the epicenter of orchestrated disinformation campaigns. “The Jubilee House has turned into a factory of fake news, where statements are twisted or fabricated to serve political ends,” Mahama declared.

He cited personal experiences and noted that such tactics are not new but are increasingly pervasive. “It is not the journalists; it is the Jubilee House. When words are put in your mouth that you did not utter, that is fake news,” Mahama emphasized.

He further cautioned Ghanaians to be vigilant and discerning, urging them to verify information before accepting it as truth. “This approach undermines our democracy and creates unnecessary confusion. As we approach the elections, it is essential for everyone to stay informed and not be swayed by orchestrated lies,” he added.

Mahama’s comments underscore growing concerns about the role of misinformation in Ghana’s political landscape, with political figures and institutions increasingly finding themselves in the crosshairs of fake news campaigns.
