Diella TekuSecurity personnel apprehended a man on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, after he allegedly smashed the windscreens of multiple vehicles parked within the premises of Ghana’s Parliament.
The incident, which unfolded in broad daylight, left eyewitnesses and officials shocked, as the suspect moved methodically between cars, shattering windows with a metal object.
Despite the swift response from Parliament’s security team, the man’s motive remains a mystery. Witnesses described a surreal scene, with the suspect uttering cryptic statements during his arrest. He was overheard saying, “Father, have mercy on them. Daddy, they don’t know what they are doing… It is for your own good.”
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was immediately handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation.
Authorities are yet to determine whether the act was politically motivated, a result of mental health challenges, or driven by personal grievances. The unusual nature of his statements, combined with the lack of immediate clarity about his intentions, has raised speculation among those present.
Officials have assured the public that the Parliament’s premises remain secure and that investigations are underway to uncover the reasons behind this act of vandalism.
