FrimpongThe Western Region continues to experience rapid rise in cases of COVID-19 infection. Reports from the Regional Health Directorate reveals the current case counts as nine hundred and two (902), with ten (10) patients having recovered, and one (1) unfortunately has ‘given up’ to the virus.
The fears as expressed by health expects given the number of contacts and samples that are pending at the test laboratories, lies in the fact that the cases could spike further in the coming days, hitting the dreaded one thousand (1000) mark as test results are produced.
Per the latest statistics, a total of four thousand, two hundred and eighty-one (4281) samples of both contacts and suspected infected persons are pending test.
The worst hit areas in the Western Region are; Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis (333), Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality (314), and Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality (91). Almost all districts in the region, with the exception of Amenfi East and Amenfi Central, have recorded a case of the novel coronavirus infection.

Isolation Centers
One issue that seem to impede efforts in managing the pandemic has to do with the availability of isolation centers. The initial thirteen treatment centers that were earmarked are overwhelmed by the rising numbers, drawing on the need for the designation of facilities to be used as isolation centers.
