FrimpongThe West African Examination Council (WAEC) has said that leakage of question papers for the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) is a thing of the past.
Speaking in an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, the Head of School Examinations Administrations Department at WAEC, Mr. Godfried Addo assured: “We don’t have any security problems in regards to the question papers. We are well fortified. We have a 24- hour guard police. We have other security agencies and from time to time we visit those places. We are very prepared with security so our question papers are secured”.
According to him, the perception of leakage of exams questions exists because of two main reasons.
He explained, “I know the issue of leaks happened a long time ago. Currently, we don’t have that. However, we are talking about these road websites that take money from students and promise to give them the questions. At the end of the day, these people go for the past questions and place it on the platform. Then they make the students pay GH₵6000 or GH₵5000 only for them to realize that these were not the questions.
Another problem is that when the papers are sent in the morning, then some unscrupulous people use their phones to take pictures of the papers and place it on social media. So with this, some people may conclude that the papers are already out in the public domain”.
He however emphasized, “for leaks, I say we don’t have anything like that. We are prepared to deal with these things”.
