Dr. Michael Ayamga-Adongo, the economist with the University for Development Studies (UDS), has lashed out at the President for subjecting people’s children to harm but goes into isolation having reportedly tested negative.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on July 4, 2020, started to self-isolate after one of his closest team members got infected with COVID-19.
My News Gh reported that according to the statement from the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the President will be working from the Presidential Villa while he self-isolates for 14 days.
There have been calls on the President to close down schools due to the rising number of infections in the country.
Adding his voice to the fervent call on the government, Dr. Ayamga-Adongo noted that the President and his appointees have not been truthful to the people of Ghana with regards to the fight against COVID-19.
To him, the President did not send the students back to school for only the exams but also for the registration exercise; a move that has put the life of the students in danger while he the President is enjoying his self-isolation with her family.
“You sent other’s people’s children in harm’s way in the name of voter I’D card and Ghana exams but tested and went into hiding with your own. Your Ministers and family members are resting in VIP sections of hospitals you didn’t build while ordinary citizens are left to their fate.”
He noted that Government’s response to COVID-19 has been riddled with lies.
“Your COVID-19 response is a PR sham where you send liars-in-chief to deceive us.”
