FrimpongRegardless of unwarranted demands engineered by the biggest opposition party in Ghana for government to remove the Millitary personnels at the Aflao border, the chiefs of Klikor Lauds goverment on efforts taken to prevent some Togolese from using unapproved routes to enter Ghana in order to prevent foreigners with unsuspecting COVID-19 cases into the country.
Chiefs from the Volta region led by the Dufia of Klikor-Satsimadza/Ablotsivia, Torgbi Satsimadza Afari III and Torgbi Xenodzi Dogbey II, Dufia of Klikor – Worgbato, came out with a statement covered by GTV, UTV , Citi TV and radio stations in the country last Tuesday.
Below is the statement read by Torgbi Xenodzi Dogbey II on behalf of the Chiefs of Klikor:
There has been happenings in recent times that puts the good people of the Volta Region on social media for all forms of unsavory words and attacks.
Some paramount chiefs in the region have made calls to the government to withdraw military personnel from the Volta Region because they feel intimidated by the presence of the soldiers. This issue was hyped to the extent that the president had to even come out to make a statement to that effect.
Soldiers have been deployed at all approved and notable unapproved routes by the Togolese government almost all the time. I have lived here long enough to speak to these facts. What is wrong if similar steps are taken to protect our country Ghana?
Is it not a known fact that, people smuggle cocoa, subsidized fertilizer, subsidized fuel among others to our neighbouring countries to our detriment?
Again, in the midst of terrorism and corona virus why should paramount chiefs in our Region find the deployment of military personnel into the region as intimidating? The fact that Togo has not closed down its airport to foreigners poses a challenge to Ghana since arriving people use most unapproved routes to enter Ghana to avoid the mandatory quarantine.
Ghana has a responsibility to protect its territory with jealousy and all its might. Residents can complain but chiefs should rather be measured in what they speak about.
Is it not amazing that, our members of parliament only found their voice when it was time to register for elections. Where were they, the Volta MPs caucus when our brother declared secession from Ghana? How come notable paramount chiefs like Togbe Afede, Togbe Sri and Torgbi Fiti remained silent on these issues? In the case of Torgbi Afede he remains the president of the Ghana National House of Chiefs. How will he feel if any chief from the other regions question his loyalty to Ghana since his inactions on such an important issue cannot be overlooked.
Unfortunately, on the 16th of November 2019, some sons and daughters of our land declared independence from Ghana and called themselves “Western Togoland” and surprisingly those of us who should have ACTED remained adamant. Our inaction to bring leadership to bear on them has placed questions on our leadership qualities.
Our silence over this issue has become too laud to be ignore.
As chiefs it remains our duty to nit everybody together to achieve national unity. Ghana remains our country, and it is our responsibility to define its territories with pride and all our might.
Regardless of who is calling for the separation, we the chiefs are the leading opinion leaders in this matter. No indigene can overlook our roles and make such declaration without our blessings
On this occasion I dole out my heart to these two individuals Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Hon. Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, for condemning the secessionist activities. For once I have heard them speak about it.
But for the rest of the Volta MP caucus in parliament, the politicians in the region and the revered paramount chiefs in the region, I leave them with this quote from Emperor Haile Selassie.
“Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph.”
In attendance for this all important press briefing were Klikor Chiefs including Torgbi Agbali Akpalu(Dufia of Klikor – Glidzi) Torgbi Amani(Dufia of Klikor-Atsiaklobo), Torgbi Atsu Adzraka Gawu Gabienu V(Dufia of Klikor – Horme) and Torgbi Atsiwoto.
