Romantic nicknames aren’t just for the “ultra-shmoozy.” Creating pet names for one another can be a fun way for you to connect with your partner. Sweetheart nicknames can be affectionate, creative or playful. To find the perfect nickname for your boo, you can even look at history.
There is no limit to the number of nicknames that are available to couples. Here are a few lists of nicknames to help you get started:
When choosing the perfect nickname, you’ll want to highlight your feelings for your significant other.
These romantic nicknames for her or him might be just what you wanted.
These fun name ideas are ideal for those who are young or young-at-heart.

Look to celebrities and famous icons to create great nicknames for your significant other. A few work well as couples’ names, too.
Even royals aren’t immune to a playful, or suggestive, nickname. There are a few nicknames that have survived history to tell a bit more about famous relationships from the past.
Napoleon Bonaparte referred to his wife, Josephine as his “little Josephine” all his life. Josephine preferred to be called by the name she held in her youth, “Rose.” Josephine refrained from bestowing such a name on her husband. Instead, she referred to him as “Dear husband” or “My dear Bonaparte,” if at all.
Who knows what they called one another in private, but Marc Antony and Cleopatra were never known for their quiet ways. After the loss of her husband, Julius Caesar, the last Queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, held a scandalous affair with the chief warrior of Rome, Antony. On coinage and on monuments we can see the couple’s love for long titles and their willingness to bestow the names of deities upon one another. She named herself “Isis” which Antony happily called her. Antony received the name “Dionysus” after his favorite god of wine and celebration.
No one fancied himself a lover more than Henry Tudor, or Henry VIII. His most tumultuous relationship was undoubtedly with Lady Anne Boleyn. In his letters to the future queen, he called her “sweetheart” and even “my own darling.” For her part, Anne used nicknames like “great king” and “my dear majesty.” When wooing a new wife or lover, Henry has a long, recorded history of using nicknames and platitudes as compliments to his intended.
The pet name you choose for the person you love can last a lifetime or change with age or through the seasons of life. Take your time when picking a romantic nickname for someone you love. When you find one you both like, use it in romantic cards, sweet love notes and private conversations.
