FrimpongThis he said he will do because over the years, the Communications Ministry has failed to present the reports of their Agencies in accordance with the laws of Ghana.
In a post shared on Facebook after the vetting of the Minister-designate Ursula Owusu, the Ningo Prampram expressed his reservations about her performance at the vetting and the fact that the Minister-designate seemed unaware of the activities of agencies under her Ministry.
He said “I am surprised at the number of things the Minister-Designate claimed not to know about. As a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Communications over the past four (4) years, we had several clashes over moves by the Ministry to frustrate our oversight over agencies under the Ministry especially the National Communications Authority Ghana.
Due to the non-subvented status, they evade the usual annual scrutiny of the budget hearings. Not once in the four years, contrary to s.33(2) of Act 524, did they present an annual report. Only God knows what they have been hiding. The 8th Parliament owes it to Ghanaians to ensure that Parliament is more efficient in its oversight of the Executive.
If I find myself on the Communications Committee again, I would do all in my power to block the approval of the budget estimates of the Ministry of Communications Ghana if they fail to present the reports of their Agencies in accordance with the laws of Ghana. So help me GOD.”
