Even though Portugal defeated Hungary 3-0 in their Euro 2020 opener on Tuesday with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a brace, the 36-year-old was furious with one of his teammates at the break.
Emerging footage shows the Juventus forward being angry with Diogo Jota in the Ferenc Puskas Stadium tunnels at half-time.
The thing is that the Liverpool man didn’t pass the ball to Ronaldo when the latter was in better position to shoot in the opening 45 minutes.
Cristiano’s reaction has gone viral on the internet with many fans slamming the Portuguese icon.
One wrote: “Amazing player, brilliant career, not how a captain and leader should act. Just looks like petulance because didn’t get what he wanted. Speak to him, coach him, use your experience for good rather than belittling. That’s what makes you a true legend.”
A second tweeted: “Disgusting reaction from CR7 it’s not all about him had he taken the shot and missed others would have gone to console him and encourage him it’s not all about CR7.”
On the other hand, some fans have also defended Ronaldo’s reaction.
One wrote: “Jota was moving a little selfish that game I don’t blame him.”
Another added: “Well the match is not about Jota. It’s a team sport. And Jota should have passed. Simple. As soon as he leaves, they score 3.”
