Czech Republic captain, Vladimír Darida has announced his retirement from international football after his country’s elimination from the 2020 Euro.
The 30-year-old who plays as a central midfielder missed the 2-0 victory over the Netherlands in the Round of 16 with an unspecified injury and came on as a substitute in the 2-1 loss to Denmark in the Euro 2020 quarterfinals on Saturday.
Since his debut in a warmup match for Euro 2012 against Israel, Darida played 76 games for the national team, scoring eight goals.
In a statement, Vladimír said he wants to spend more time with his family.
“I experienced beautiful moments in the national team,” Darida said in a statement. “Now, I’d like to spend much more time with my family and my young son.
Darida came through at Viktoria Plze?, also spending time on loan at FK Baník Sokolov in 2011. He joined Freiburg in 2013. Darida signed for Hertha BSC from relegated Freiburg ahead of the 2015-16 season.
