Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr. Peter Mac Manu has named those he believes will be front runners to beat the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) in the 2024 polls in order to make the ‘Break the 8’ a reality
He indicates that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, all have his endorsement and blessing to lead the party into the next general elections.
“Both of them are my favorites… anyone of them can lead the party. Anyone Nana Akufo-Addo will give the mantle will win 2024”, the 2020 Campaign Manager of the party, Mr. Peter Mac Manu told Multi TV’s Emefa Apawu on “The Probe” show on Sunday, 8th August 2021
He however stated that the power to elect a flagbearer is with the NPP delegates hoping the delegates will make the right choice in due time in the people’s interest.
“Under the party’s rules and regulations in our constitution, it is there over 3000+ delegates who have the power and authority to elect a leader, and whoever they elect, Chairman Mac Manu will support”, the two times Campaign Manager stated while indicating the party’s readiness to break the eight-year rule”, the NPP leading member said.
“I think the delegates in NPP are so decerning that at any material time, they have proven to give us the best so I will not say I support “A” or “B”, Mr. Peter Mac Manu added.
Though the party is yet to open nominations officially for prospective members to contest for the 2024 flagbearership slot, there appears to be tension between supporters of Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten and Vice president Dr. Bawumia.
Meanwhile, political pundits are warning the leadership of the NPP party to take steps to address issues since that could bring a sharp division in the party.
