A Facebook user by the name Kwame Baidoo has complained bitterly and chronicled how he was given rather an unwelcoming experience at the Kotoka International Airport.

According to him, his family arrived from London and after two hours of checking their luggage, they left for home around 11 pm.

However, after arriving at home, to his shock, all his personal effects were gone from their bags.

“I had a shocking experience at the airport last night. I picked up my family last night arriving from London with British Airways. They arrived just about 8:45pm. We waited for close to 2hrs going through immigration and luggage collection.”

Adding that “We got home almost 11pm, only to realise all person effects in our 6 luggages are gone. From my shoes, watches, perfumes and others, even my daughters shoes, everything is gone. Ghana Airport Company Limited…!!!”

He further indicated that “Missing Baggage Items at Kotoka Update 2:Hmm, ok so we went back to the airport to officially make a complaint about our missing items. We first went to the Baggage Reclaim section at the arrival area. We met a lady (name withheld for now). We explained our situation and to my surprise, she said nothing can be done so we should go online and look for British Airways email and send them an email. I got angry and started asking questions, she ignored me and kept speaking to my wife because my wife appears to accept her directive. I then asked to be directed to the GLASS OFFICE (Security Office at the airport). She got angry and asked why I want to go there, I insisted on going to that office but she declined to direct us.

I had no option than to leave and find my way to that Glass office. Finally we made it to the glass office and met a wonderful man, I think something something Sam. He gave out a complaint forms for us to make a statement and also called another officer by name Christy to take some travel information from my wife. Interesting the lady officer came and said “I think I know you and indeed I knew her”. They assured us they will review videos to ascertain what really happened. They advised there after we report to BA as well. We went to the BA office at the departure hall to lodge a complaint. Apparently the lady at the Baggage Reclaim office was supposed to open a case file for us and give us a complaint code to be used to fill out a form on BA website, yet this lady boldly told us there’s nothing they could do about it. Long story short, we’ve been back at the Baggage Reclaim to meet this lady and another man since 5pm. Its 7:30pm now they are still opening a case file for us…. at 8pm we will leave”.

He continued “

I must say I’m very surprised the number of support that came through from you guys here. Those who reached out privately to help, those who recommended others to us for help and those friends I didnt even know they work at KIA. We say thank you all for that amazing support. What is quite shocking is that a lot of people have experiences of missing stuff at KIA, reading from the comments from my earlier post. I think authorities must work on these. I must say the guys at the Glass Office are too professional, I commend them so well. The guys at BA office too really helped especially the gentleman that later came in and directed us back to the Baggage Reclaim office.

He took his time to explain the protocol to us. I believe this is who we are as people, very accommodating and supportive but for the few “bad nuts” this whole experience would have stayed off here. We finally got home few minutes after 10pm, after passing through my favorite  Dansoman Keep Fit Club for my Catfish. We spent a lil over 3hours at the Baggage Reclaim office, finally got registered and given a reference number. We were so tired I couldn’t even charge my phones when we got home. This morning we have found some of the personal effects we had listed as missing. We will continue to engage the authorities and also inform them of our find. I will once again say thanks to the officer at the Glass Office and Christy as well as the gentleman from BA office”.

He used the opportunity to call on the Board Chairman of the Ghana Airport Company to as a matter of urgency address the situation.
