GENDER

Is it more manly to fight back or to walk away?

That really depends on the fight. Some fights are worth fighting. Some are not. Part of being a man is knowing the difference.

Consider.

Some vagabonds are circle-kicking a bum. You shout at them to stop, but they don’t. Instead, one keeps kicking him and the other gets in your face asking what you’re going to do about it. At that point the proper course of action is to thwack the lout soundly about the head and neck with whatever weapon you have available, and proceed to his cohort if necessary, to extricate the poor bum from their abuse.

Consider.

You’re enjoying a nice beer at a bar, looking about the room. A drunk buffoon shambles up to you and demands to know if you’re eyeballing his woman. Certainly your eyes passed across her lovely visage, but you were hardly “eyeballing” her. The proper course of action here is to deescalate the situation verbally if possible, and just move to a different part of the bar if not. The drunkard is not worth your trouble, nor is it a worthy fight.
