Star Ghanaian actress Nana Ama McBrown is celebrated all over Ghana and beyond for her acting prowess and she is one of the most successful screen goddesses of her time.
But her successes as an actress and in life have not come easy as she had to hustle her way to the top.
In a new interview with Voice of America’s Linord Moudou on her VIP With Linord show, McBrown has opened up about her ‘grass to grace’ story.
According to the celebrated actress, a few years ago, she was not doing well financially and it took the advice of a good friend to help her turn things around for her.
In a video from the interview, McBrown narrated that she was so broke at points in time that she once had to beg a friend to lend her GHC50 to feed.
After getting the GHC50, she had to manage it so well that it could keep her through one week, she added.
She was not having so much until a good friend advised her to ‘marry her job’.
“Years ago, I went so broke [that] a friend of mine gave me GHC50 and I survived on that for about a week. 2008.
“So I met a man and he told me ‘get married to your job’ and one day you will find me. You know why you are broke it is because you have divorced your job…
“Since then I took that advice and it’s been 11 years now,” McBrown narrated while revealing the best advice she had ever got in an answer to a question.
From those times, she has risen to become one of the most sought-after actresses, if not the number one.
Apart from acting, McBrown’s likeable image has seen her bag numerous endorsement deals as a brand ambassador for many brands in Ghana.
Even when the movie industry is facing difficulties and work has slowed down in the past few years, McBrown has managed to rise through to become a formidable TV presenter. She currently hosts McBrown’s Kitchen, a cooking show she owns and produces, and United Showbiz, an entertainment show from the stables of UTV.
So it looks like the advice worked for her and we can all take inspiration from her success.
