Diella TekuPresident Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has delivered a strong message ahead of the December 2024 elections, urging Ghanaians to reject former President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), warning that voting for them would take the country backward. Speaking to chiefs and elders in the Western North Region on Wednesday, President Akufo-Addo stressed that Mahama and the NDC offer no new solutions for Ghana’s future.
The president underscored that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, represents a new era of hope, progress, and continued development for the nation. Akufo-Addo urged the gathering to rally behind Dr. Bawumia, whom he described as a candidate with fresh ideas and a clear vision to propel Ghana forward.
Highlighting the failings of Mahama’s previous administration, President Akufo-Addo cited the collapse of the Kumasi Brewery, which he claimed operated efficiently under multiple shifts but suffered severe setbacks during Mahama’s tenure. “John Dramani Mahama will come here again before we vote in December 2024. When he comes, ask him about the Kumasi Brewery. It used to produce beer and Guinness, working three shifts within 24 hours. But it collapsed during his time in office,” Akufo-Addo stated, illustrating what he called the mismanagement under Mahama’s leadership.
Akufo-Addo also pointed to the former president’s inability to implement a 24-hour economy, despite his promises. “You want a 24-hour economy but couldn’t oversee what was left in your care. Is it now that you are going to do something about it?” the president asked rhetorically, emphasizing his point that Mahama’s leadership had not delivered the progress the country needed.
President Akufo-Addo made a passionate plea to the people of the Western North Region, urging them not to “make a mistake and retrogress.” He urged them to fully support Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming elections, insisting that the NPP’s track record of progress and development should guide their decision. “Let’s throw our weight behind Bawumia and move forward to take Ghana to the next step of development,” Akufo-Addo said, signaling a clear distinction between the NPP’s vision for the future and the stagnation he believes would come with a return of the NDC.
With the 2024 elections fast approaching, Akufo-Addo’s remarks are part of a broader campaign to ensure that Ghanaians continue on the path of development under the leadership of the NPP and Dr. Bawumia.
