The Wassa East District Security Council in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service has led an operation on the Pra River to arrest two Chainese Illegal miners.
The operation which involved the military was conducted at Atieku in the same district.
According to reports, the chinese illegal miners had set their machines on the river and have been mining with impunity.
Eight out of the ten Chinese illegal miners bolted leaving two behind.
They were subsequently arrested and are assisting the police in further investigations.
Some illegal mining equipment were found on site.
It included, washing machines, generators, and many others.
The two were marched to the District Police Command where the equipment are being kept.
The Police has subsequently mounted a search for the remaining eight who are currently on the run.
The exercise is in conjunction with the directive of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to end the illegal mining manace in Ghana especially on river bodies.
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Samuel Abu Jinapor ended a two day tour to the Western Region with a warning to all MMDAs to ensure the illegal mining manace becomes a thing of the past.
The District Chief Executive for Wassa East, Mr. Wilson Arthur who led the raid indicated in an interview that his outfit will ensure all illegal miners are nabbed in the area.
He added that mining on the river must as well not be entertained.
Reports indicates the two chinese illegal miners who have been arrested will be transported to Accra for the laws of the country to deal with them.
The rate at which foreigners, particularly Chinese have invaded Ghana in the name of mining has widely been condemned.
It is alleged that most of the illegal mining activities in the country are being led by the chinese.
In the Western Region, several excavators belonging to Chinese nationals have been seized.
Some Ghanaians who are believed to be their accomplices have on several occasions been arrested as well due to the illegal mining on river bodies.
The Ghana Water Company Limited has been rationing water in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis due to the activities of illegal miners.
They have also complained about the several milliins of Ghana Cedis used in treating water for residents to consume.
