FrimpongFormer Ghana international Anthony Baffoe has revealed he never thought of leading the Black Stars in the Africa Cup of Nations final in Senegal in 1992.
Abedi Pele who the captain of the team was suspended for the match against Ivory Coast and Tony Yeboah, who was assistant, was supposed to lead the team in the finals.
But, then head coach Otto Pfister handed the captain armband to Anthony Baffoe instead of Tony Yeboah.
The decision triggered a lot of argument in the team and back home in Ghana.
Tony Yeboah recently expressed his disappointment and surprise for being snubbed for the captaincy on the day.
However, Anthony Baffoe has broken the silence on the matter stating he was surprised when the coach handed him the captain armband.
“I was not expecting to lead the team. Many people thought Abedi Pele had a hand in the decision because he was my roommate but that wasn’t true. Abedi Pele was innocent,” he told GTV.
Ghana eventually lost the game 11-10 via penalties, Tony Baffoe who captained the team on day the missed his spot kick.
