In a tragic development, two individuals lost their lives in a violent ambush amid the ongoing conflict in Bawku. The victims were traveling in a truck, attempting to transport the body of a deceased family member to Togo when unidentified gunmen attacked them.

One of the victims was reportedly a Mamprusi, while the other was a Togolese man who had been in Bawku to care for his father, who had recently passed away.

The Bawku region has been plagued by escalating violence linked to longstanding chieftaincy and ethnic disputes. Tensions surged again after the return of a rival chief, renewing hostilities among local groups. With rising fatalities and security forces deployed to contain unrest, residents continue to face fear and uncertainty.

This tragic ambush brings the recent death toll in Bawku’s conflict to 19, underscoring the urgent need for peace and stability in the region as authorities work to mediate the crisis.
