Black Stars Coach Stands Firm Amid Calls for Resignation

Despite Ghana’s recent struggles on the pitch, including a 2-1 loss to Niger in their final Group F match, Black Stars Coach Otto Addo has dismissed calls for his resignation, reaffirming his commitment to the team.

Addressing the media after the match, Addo acknowledged the team’s challenges but maintained that stepping down was not an option. “I’m not the person who can resign. If I had done this, I’d never have become a player or even a coach. If you know where I have come from as a person to arrive at this job, you won’t even ask about my resignation,” he said.

Addo emphasized the need for media and fan support, particularly for the players who, he believes, have given their all despite the recent setbacks. “We started okay but conceded a goal from a set piece. We were aware because the last time we met, they scored from a corner. Surely, we have to defend these set pieces better. It seems everything is going against us,” he said.

However, Addo highlighted some positives from the match, praising the performance of players who had been less featured in previous games. “There are some positives, especially from players who hadn’t played before but did well today,” he noted.

Addo took aim at the media for focusing solely on the negatives and influencing public opinion against the team. “The media has the power to control the narratives of games, not only the results. You have the power to lift somebody. I really need you to leave the players alone because they gave us everything,” he appealed.

As Ghana prepares for the critical December polls, Addo’s comments extended beyond football, calling for peace and unity within the country.

“It’s important that we come together, not just for the team but for the nation, especially as we approach December. Let’s focus on what unites us and work toward a better future,” he urged.
