FrimpongAmidst the sad news of NPP stalwart Sir John’s passing, social media is abuzz with claims that more NPP party and government officials are also in the ICU at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. Among the names mentioned is Member of Parliament for Tema West Hon. Carlos Ahenkora who doubles as Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry.
But according to a close friend of the Tema West MP, nothing is farther from the truth. In fact Hon. Ahenkora was never in the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital although he was at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Shortly after the NPP primaries, the Deputy Minister is reported to have complained about not feeling well. He consequently proceeded to see his physician who advised him to undergo some testing at Korle Bu Hospital. He arrived there yesterday afternoon and was told that he would have to spend the night in the hospital as the tests would not be completed in time for him to return home.
He stayed the night at the hospital, underwent the tests, and was released to return home where he is “convalescing” as at the time of penning this article, according to the source who has chatted with him and can confirm this story.
Workers at these medical facilities are advised to respect patient privacy laws and not unnecessarily alarm the general public. It should not be that a mere sighting of a public figure at a medical facility be communicated on social media. “It is wrong on two fronts – first the privacy front a,d secondly the fact that not every part of a hospital is an Intensive Care Unit (ICU),” the source intimated to DNT.
