Nana Kwame Bediako, widely known as Cheddar and leader of the New Force Movement, has firmly denied rumors claiming he did not vote for his party in the recently concluded 2024 Presidential Election. Speaking at his first media briefing since the election, held in Accra on Monday, Bediako addressed the allegations while raising concerns over the integrity of the electoral process.
Cheddar voiced dissatisfaction with inconsistencies observed during the elections, particularly the re-collation and re-declaration of results in some highly contested constituencies. He emphasized the urgent need for electoral reforms, calling for the establishment of robust structures to enhance transparency and uphold the democratic values of the nation.
“The point I am trying to make is, as a nation, don’t we get enough of destroying our own and lying?” he asked, addressing the rumors. “Yes, my wife voted for me, and I voted for myself.”
Highlighting issues within the election system, Bediako expressed disappointment over his party’s lack of familiarity with some polling station agents assigned during the process. He stressed that a functional system grounded in strong laws and governance is essential for protecting the nation’s democratic foundations.
“Our system is not the best system that can really support what we believe in as democracy,” he stated. “It has more to do with us as a country, standing up and making sure that we are protected by a system which we have built with laws and governance to protect the nation.”
The New Force Movement leader’s remarks underscore a broader call for accountability and reform in Ghana’s electoral system to ensure fairness and credibility in future elections.
