Mr Stephen Desu, the founder and President of Innovative Teachers, one of the Teacher unions in Ghana has indicated that KA Technologies, the manufacturer of TM1 laptops is not recognized by RGD.
Mr Desu has in a joint suit with All Teacher’s Alliance Ghana, filed a suit at the Accra High court challenging the capacity of the company to produce laptops for teachers.
It could be recalled that, Innovative Teachers Union has been one of the opponents of the Teachers laptop project, citing that the laptops are of low quality and has recommended for apple or known brands should there be a need for teachers laptops.
In a conversation with the President of the union, yesterday, to seek clarifications on why they have placed an interlocutory injunction on deductions from salaries of teachers which would be made in favour of the the laptops, he explained that the company has no record of manufacturing laptops and also not registered.
TM1 laptop which stands for Teachers Mate 1 was introduced by the Ghana Education Service as part of the measures in place to ensure every teacher gets a laptop. The cost of the laptop is to be shared between government and the teacher at a ratio of 70%:30%.
