COVID-19 : Volta Region to get screening centres as fight against virus intensifies 46

As part of efforts being made by government to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, the Volta Region will have screening centres at its entry points from Accra and the Eastern Region, Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa has revealed.

According to myjoynline, the screening centres would be situated in the South Dayi, North and South Tongu districts as contained in a press statement signed by the Minister.

According to the Minister, the measures were instituted by the Volta Regional Public Health Emergency Management Committee, following an increase in confirmed cases in neighbouring Eastern Region from 1 to 16 as of April 10, 2020.

He noted that discussions are underway with Municipal and District Chief Executives to adopt practical solutions to prevent overcrowding on market days in their respective areas.

Dr. Letsa opined that a multidisciplinary task force has been set up to ensure private and commercial vehicles adhere to the social distancing directive by the Transport Ministry, which includes a reduction in the number of passengers aboard a vehicle while encouraging individuals to adhere to social distancing protocols

“It is strongly recommended that the general public adhere to social distancing in all endeavours especially when they are boarding vehicles,” he said.
