The free Senior High School policy introduced in full force by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the New Patriotic Party has been widely accepted by Ghanaians.

Most young people who had no hope of being in school have had the opportunity to obtain Senior High School Education at no cost.

But some Ghanaians are unhappy about the mirage of challenges that have marred the policy recently. The issue of lack of infrastructure has widely been discussed whilst others believe the schedules of students have become worse.

Some parents have indicated that their wards are being made to vacate or report to school with just a prior notice which is very unfortunate.

The main argument by others is that the Free Senior High School is destroying the current education system.

But the New Patriotic Party holds a different view. According to them, the Free Senior High School has been very successful.

Well, a comparative analysis of results from the West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE) between 2015 and 2020 suggests the policy has been successful.

A data of John Dramani Mahama’s era of students admitted in the 2013/2014 academic year compared to the first batch of students admitted by the NPP has been released.

.

In the data analysis, the percent of passes from A1-C6 in core subjects by the free Senior High School students are better in percentage as compared to when John Dramani Mahama was the President.

In the year 2015 for example, SHS students who sat for the examination scored 45.2% in English language whilst 57.34 percent was recorded through the free SHS policy in the year 2020.

With integrated science, the free Senior High School graduates scored 52.53 percent in 2020 but in 2015 the students had 28.7 percent.

32.4 percent of students passed in mathematics in 2015 whilst in the year 2020, 65.71 percent of the free SHS students passed.

The batch of students presented by John Dramani Mahama in 2015 scored 57.4 percent in social studies and Akufo Addo’s Free SHS students scored 64.31 percent.

.

The data clearly shows that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo has performed better under the free Senior High school policy than Mr. John Dramani Mahama before leaving office as president.

Even though there have been snippets of challenges, the data has spoken for itself.
