Quick summary of David’s life:

He went from making a $1000 a month spraying for rodents, paying $810 of rent, weighting 297+ lbs, thousands of dollars on credit card debt, just a high school education, divorced and with his mother as his only friend in the world at 24.

To now at 43-44, only person in history to go through 3 Hell Weeks in a year, 36th African American Navy SEAL in history, only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller, “Top Honored Man” at Army Ranger School, world record for pull ups, ultra endurance cyclist, ultra endurance runner, triathle, philanthropist, motivational speaker, best selling author, entrepeneur, multiple medals and acknowledgements like the “Americanism Award” and I’ll stop here to make this post short.

  • David at Badwater with a 3rd place finisher, considered the hardest race in the world. A 135 mile race through Death Valley at summer time.

Through running he has managed to rise more than 2 million dollars for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

  • With only three days of notice and two months left to qualify for Badwater, he ran 101 miles in less than 19 hs. weighting 230+ lbs, without preparation or experience and with a full body workout (squats, deadlifts, power cleans, bench press) the day before.
  • On January 19, 2013, in Brentwood, Tennessee, Goggins broke the world record for the most pull-ups done in 24 hours. He completed 4,030 pull-ups in 17 hours, and set a new world record. Record that he failed at it twice. Reaching 67000 pull-ups in total of training.

His foundation for life was a congenital hole in his heart, bullying and death threats for being black, physical and mental abuse by his father, a depressed mother, a step dad murdered, poverty, learning disability, ADHD, PTSD, social anxiety and a stutter.

No mentors, no coachs, no self help books.

Just a couple of old movies that inspired him (Rocky and Platoon), some songs that he would chant in torturous situations (Going the Distance, Speed of Sound, Adagio in Strings) and a documentary of BUD/S (Class 224) that he saw on TV.
