Desperate Woodworkers Seek Help From Political Parties After Massive Fire Outbreak 46

Woodworkers at Sokoban Wood Village in the Ashanti region are grappling with the aftermath of a fire that ravaged their livelihoods, leaving them burdened with heavy bank loans and uncertain futures. On October 3, 2024, the blaze engulfed 18 shops, reducing plywood and wood products to ashes. Though firefighters salvaged 32 shops, many workers are now stranded, expressing deep concerns about their ability to support their families.

With dependents to care for and children in higher education, the affected traders are pleading for government intervention, vowing to support any political party that offers relief. “My children are in Legon and KNUST. If no help comes, I don’t know how we’ll manage. NPP, NDC, or Cheddar – whoever helps us will get our vote,” one distraught worker shared. The Ghana National Fire Service has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, with officials commending the quick response of four fire tenders that helped limit further damage.

As they await answers, these workers remain in a state of uncertainty, urgently calling for assistance to rebuild their businesses and lives.
