FrimpongDirector for Sports at the University of Ghana Dr Bella Bello Bitugu has asked the government of Ghana not to rush into easing the restrictions of contact sports just because of the NPP primaries.
Dr Bella Bello who was part of a panel discussing the negative effects of the COVID-19 on Happy FM and GTV Sports + insists the the restrictions have helped alot in curbing the spread of the virus, and a further prevention of more spread of the government holds on to the current directives.
He noted that the NPP primaries unlike Football matches is a one-off even, and therefore has not correlation with football activities
“The restrictions have helped curb the spread of the virus so we can’t ask government to allow contact sports to resume because of a one-off primaries – Dr Bella Bello Bitugu, Director of Sports” told the panel.
Dr Bello further maintained that as a precautionary measure, the African University games has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and deems it fit that all contact sports be put on hold.
“The African university games that were supposed to come off in August have been postponed to 2022 due this COVID-19. However, there are championships to be organized in 2021 before the African university games.
