Diella TekuDr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is set to engage directly with parents and students in a special live broadcast scheduled for Sunday, 10th November 2024. This event, which will be aired across all major TV and radio stations in Ghana and streamed on social media, aims to provide a comprehensive look into his education and job creation plans, with a strong focus on protecting and enhancing key national policies such as Free SHS (Senior High School) and Free TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training).
The live engagement, themed “Protecting Free SHS, Providing Skills for Jobs – The Bawumia Plan,” will address growing concerns among parents and students about the future of Free SHS, a programme that has gained widespread popularity since its implementation. Dr. Bawumia will outline his commitment to safeguarding the Free SHS policy, ensuring that it continues to provide access to quality education for all Ghanaian students, while also reinforcing the importance of Free TVET in equipping the youth with practical skills for the future workforce.
According to a statement from his campaign spokesperson, Dennis Mircales Aboagye, Dr. Bawumia will also take the opportunity to expand on his broader vision for education, which aims to empower every young person in Ghana with the knowledge and skills needed to lead productive, dignified, and fulfilling lives. In particular, Dr. Bawumia is expected to emphasize the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education as a key driver of national development.
A special segment of the event will feature a presentation by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education, who will explain why the NPP is prioritizing STEM education and how it fits into the party’s long-term vision for the country’s educational system. Dr. Adutwum will provide insights into how this focus on STEM will better prepare students for the rapidly evolving job market.
Dr. Bawumia’s engagement will also reassure SHS graduates that his administration will prioritize access to tertiary education, ensuring that financial barriers are eliminated. “No student should be denied a university education due to their inability to pay,” Dr. Bawumia will promise, outlining plans to make tertiary education more accessible and affordable for all.
This engagement follows a previous successful interaction with Ghanaian youth on Sunday, 3rd November, where Dr. Bawumia shared his ambitious plans to tackle unemployment by creating 4 million jobs over the next eight years. The upcoming broadcast will build on that conversation by showing how education and job creation are intricately linked in his vision for the country’s future.
The NPP’s plan for the next generation will be at the forefront of this event, with Dr. Bawumia positioning himself as the candidate most committed to ensuring that Ghana’s youth are equipped with the education and skills they need for a prosperous future. The live event will allow for direct interaction, with parents, students, and other members of the public able to tune in, learn more about Dr. Bawumia’s plans, and ask questions via social media channels.
As election day on 7th December 2024 draws nearer, this event will be a key moment for Dr. Bawumia to demonstrate his readiness to lead Ghana into a new era of educational excellence and job creation.
