The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged Ghanaians to unite in supporting its efforts to ensure credible and transparent elections, even as disputes linger over the re-collation and declaration of parliamentary results in several key constituencies.

At a press conference in Accra recently, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa highlighted the challenges facing the electoral process, particularly in constituencies such as Nsawam Adoagyiri, Dome Kwabenya, Ablekuma North, and Okaikwei Central. Mensa called for public cooperation to uphold the integrity of Ghana’s democracy.

“Credible elections are a shared responsibility. We appeal to citizens to assist us in fulfilling our mandate while maintaining peace and order,” she said, concluding her remarks with a call for national unity and blessings for the country.

The EC has taken a firm stance on the disputed results in Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, and Ablekuma North, declaring them invalid. According to Mensa, these results were compromised due to incidents of coercion, threats to electoral staff, and the destruction of ballot papers.

While the EC has not yet disclosed its next steps to resolve the impasse, the Chairperson emphasized the Commission’s commitment to transparency and fairness in addressing the controversies.

The ongoing disputes have intensified calls for cooperation among stakeholders to safeguard Ghana’s democratic principles.
