Diella TekuThe Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has reassured stakeholders and the general public that the official results of the 2024 elections will be solely determined by the pink sheets signed at all 40,650 polling stations across the country.
Addressing a press conference at the National Collation Centre on Sunday, December 8, 2024, the Director of Electoral Services, Benjamin Bano-Bio, emphasized the integrity of the pink sheet process, urging the public to remain calm and patient as the collation of results progresses.
Bano-Bio explained that pink sheets, signed by the presiding officer and representatives of all political parties present at the polling stations, form the official documentation of election outcomes.
“As you may be aware, polls across the country closed some 15 hours ago. Per law, at the close of polls, ballots are counted at the polling station in the full view of party agents, the media, observers, and the public, and then documented on the pink sheets,” he stated.
He further clarified, “The pink sheets are signed by the presiding officer and all party agents present. Copies of the pink sheets are given to all party agents, and one is also posted on the wall of each polling station. For this election, the pink sheets generated from the 40,650 polling stations will determine the final results. Nothing will change!”
The EC called for patience and understanding from the public as the collation process is carried out meticulously to ensure accuracy and transparency.
Bano-Bio reiterated that the Commission is committed to upholding its constitutional duty and ensuring the credibility of the electoral process. He encouraged stakeholders to respect the process and await the official declaration of results.
This assurance comes amidst heightened public interest and anticipation over the final results of Saturday’s general elections. By underscoring the role of the pink sheets, the EC aims to reaffirm confidence in the electoral system and dispel concerns of manipulation or irregularities.
The EC’s focus on transparency and adherence to due process serves as a reminder of its dedication to preserving the integrity of Ghana’s democratic principles.
