FrimpongFrederick Acheampong Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has said the decision to cancel the 2019/2020 football season was a difficult one for the local football controlling body.
“It was a very tough decision as it was our wish to continue with the league.
“Per the Executive Instrument (EI), the government has banned sporting activities and there was no way we could go around it.
“We were not even having the means to go by the established protocols as well as testing all officials, players, referees, ball boys, and others.
“Are we going to camp them at a place or are clubs going to play behind closed doors? There is a whole of the issues involved. We cannot compare ourselves to the Europeans who are far more advanced than us.
“From all indications, the earliest Government could lift the ban on football activities is July 31 and that takes us into August and the clubs will need about six weeks to prepare for the start of the season,” he stated.
Touching on his links with the Chief Executive Officer position of Kotoko, Acheampong said it will be an honour to serve the club.
“I am happy to be linked to the job, but no one has called me from Kotoko. It’s all about speculation and linkages.
“Asante Kotoko is one of the biggest clubs in the world,” he added.
