A tragic incident in Inyi, Enugu State, has left the community in shock after Chikwado Eze, a businessman from Onitsha, lost his life during a ritual intended to secure success for an overseas business venture.

Eze, originally from Ugbaike, sought the services of a native doctor to perform a ritual that would “fortify” him before his trip. The ritual, however, took a fatal turn.

According to reports, the native doctor, Enuwa Odugu, instructed Eze to be buried alive for one and a half hours as part of the ritual. Accompanied by his father, Uwakwe Eze, the businessman willingly submitted to the bizarre process.

Unfortunately, when exhumed after the prescribed time, Eze was weak, drenched in sweat, and unresponsive. Despite the native doctor’s attempts to revive him using incantations, Eze’s condition deteriorated, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities have since arrested both the native doctor and Eze’s father for conspiracy and murder. The police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed that the two are under investigation and will face prosecution once inquiries are concluded.

The native doctor admitted to performing similar rituals in the past, blaming Eze’s death on a failure to follow ritual instructions properly.
