Five (5) passengers have died while five others are seriously injured in a fatal accident on Accra to Kumasi Highway.
The accident occurred at about 4:30 am on July 7, 2021, at Omenako near the Suhum stretch of the highway when a Hyundai H100 mini bus with registration number ER 1335-Z onboard with passengers crashed with a Man Desiel Trailer truck with registration number GN 688-20 carting crates of Guinness and alcoholic beverages.
The driver of Hyundai H100 minibus was speeding from Nkawkaw towards Accra direction but on reaching a section of the road at Omenako, wrongfully overtook a vehicle ahead and in the process crashed with the Man Diesel trailer truck loaded with unspecified quantities of Guinness crates from Accra direction driven by Adam Musah, 46.
Five passengers on board the Hyundai bus died on the spot including the suspect driver whiles five passengers onboard the same Hyundai bus sustained injuries and were rushed to Suhum Government Hospital and admitted for treatment.
The accident vehicle has since been towed from the road.
According to the acting Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, further investigation is underway.
