Focus on Akufo-Add and Mahama and leave out their running mates – Sekou Nkrumah

Controversial political commentator Sekou Nkrumah, who is the son of Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, has called on Ghanaians to ignore the running mates of the two major political parties – the National Democratic Congress( NDC) and the New Patriotic Party(NPP)  – but rather focus on the presidential candidates, examining the visions they have for Ghana.

Commenting on the buzz generated by the nomination of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the NDC’s running mate, Mr Nkrumah stated that she should be judged on her competence in public office as Education Minister, and not on her success as a mother or as an academic.

After all, he argues, it is Presidential candidates who drive the political vehicle and not their running mates. It contends that running mates operate within the vision of the presidential candidates and it is John Mahama’s record that will be examined against that of President Akufo-Addo and not their running mates.

Sekou Nkrumah has been a consistent critic of John Mahama and the NDC, and has admitted to being sympathetic to the governing NPP even through, ideologically, he should be in support of NDC.
