Diella TekuThe Ministry of Interior has clarified to the general public that Friday, November 8, 2024, is not a public holiday, despite it being the date selected for the celebration of this year’s National Farmers’ Day.
Instead, the statutory holiday for Farmers’ Day will still fall on Friday, December 6, 2024, which will be observed as a public holiday across the country.
Traditionally, Farmers’ Day in Ghana is celebrated on the first Friday of December as a public holiday, recognizing the significant contributions of farmers to national development. However, in election years—such as 2024—when the first Friday of December is close to the December 7 general election date, Farmers’ Day celebrations are typically moved to November. This adjustment allows sufficient focus on election preparations and activities without detracting from the importance of the Farmers’ Day celebrations.
In light of this tradition, the Ministry of Interior confirms that November 8, 2024, will be the date of celebration for Farmers’ Day this year. However, the official public holiday for Farmers’ Day remains on December 6, 2024, and will be observed nationwide on that day.
The Ministry appreciates the cooperation of all citizens and institutions in observing this arrangement and extends its best wishes to all farmers whose dedication continues to support Ghana’s agricultural sector and food security.
