The Ga Mantse, Nii Teiko Tsuru II, has commended Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for presenting thoughtful solutions to the challenges facing the Ga State. The acknowledgment came during Dr. Bawumia’s courtesy visit to the Ga Mantse and the Ga Traditional Council at the Ga Mantse’s Palace in Accra on Thursday, November 28, 2024.

During the visit, which formed part of his campaign activities, Dr. Bawumia outlined his vision and policies, emphasizing the unique challenges of the Ga State as the host of Ghana’s capital.

Dr. Bawumia noted the immense pressure on the Ga State due to its central role. “The Ga State hosts the capital of Ghana. Because of that, the rest of Ghana is here, which has implications… The demand for land here is much higher than anywhere in the country, leaving indigenes without access to affordable land,” he stated.

He also highlighted the struggles with educational opportunities, youth unemployment, and the declining use of the Ga language. “We have to make sure Ga is taught in schools to protect the language, otherwise it will be costly for the future,” Dr. Bawumia added.

In response, the Ga Mantse expressed gratitude for Dr. Bawumia’s concern and proposed solutions. “As the custodian of Ga culture and tradition, I appreciate your understanding of our challenges. Hosting the capital has not been easy. Accra has serious problems and needs serious people to solve them,” the Ga Mantse remarked.

The traditional leader further proposed a “social contract” with the Ga people should Dr. Bawumia secure the presidency.

The Ga Mantse also urged Dr. Bawumia to prioritize Ga and Dangme representation in government positions.
“Our ethnicity is dying; our language is almost erased. Solutions to ensure Ga and Dangme are taught in schools rest on your promise,” he emphasized.

As the 2024 elections approach, the Ga Mantse appealed for peace, urging all stakeholders to ensure a smooth and peaceful electoral process.
“It is our collective responsibility to maintain peace before, during, and after the elections,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia’s visit has sparked positive reactions among the Ga Traditional Council and the local community, with hopes that his policies will bring tangible benefits to the region if he ascends to the presidency.
