Diella TekuIn a decisive move to maintain momentum for the upcoming December 7 elections, the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has selected a new presidential candidate following the recent passing of its founder and former candidate, Akua Donkor, on October 29. This announcement marks a pivotal moment for the party, which aims to honor its late leader’s vision while rallying support for its electoral ambitions.
During a news conference held on November 1 in the Ashanti Region, GFP leaders convened to communicate their unity and determination to uphold Donkor’s legacy. They reassured party members and supporters of their commitment to continue advancing the party’s objectives, despite the profound loss of its founding figure.
Patrick Tetteh, the party’s parliamentary candidate for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, confirmed that the executive council had reached a consensus not only on the presidential candidate but also on a running mate. He emphasized that both selections embody the core values of the GFP and reflect a steadfast dedication to the Ghanaian populace. “This decision is crucial for our party’s future and serves as a tribute to Akua Donkor’s enduring influence and contributions,” Tetteh stated.
The GFP plans to publicly introduce the new candidate and running mate soon, ensuring that the Electoral Commission is informed in accordance with the timeline for the electoral process. Tetteh further highlighted that this strategic choice aligns with the party’s mission to actively engage in Ghana’s democratic framework and to ensure continuity in leadership as they prepare for the elections.
