Diella TekuThe United States has celebrated Ghana’s exemplary conduct during the 2024 General Elections, emphasizing the country’s unwavering commitment to democratic values.
In a statement released by the U.S. Embassy in Accra, the U.S. Government congratulated Ghanaians for their active participation in the electoral process, which it described as a testament to the power of the people’s voice.
The statement highlighted the pivotal role played by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama, whose victory signaled a new chapter in Ghana’s leadership. It reiterated the U.S.’s dedication to fostering an enduring partnership with Ghana under President Mahama’s administration.
Particular praise was reserved for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, whose gracious concession speech on Sunday set a benchmark for statesmanship and solidified Ghana’s reputation for peaceful power transitions.
“The United States commends Dr. Bawumia for his leadership and for demonstrating the values that underpin Ghana’s thriving democracy,” the statement read.
It also underscored Ghana’s position as a beacon of democracy in Africa, noting the country’s exemplary role in inspiring democratic governance across the continent. “We stand with the people of Ghana in their belief that democracy delivers,” the statement concluded.
The 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, held on December 7, witnessed a strong voter turnout and peaceful proceedings. Former President Mahama’s election victory marked his return to the presidency, as the people of Ghana once again placed their trust in his leadership.
Dr. Bawumia’s statesmanlike acknowledgment of the election results was widely lauded both domestically and internationally, reinforcing Ghana’s status as a model for democratic maturity in Africa.
