An accident involving a high-speed sprinter vehicle traveling from Kumasi to Accra left fifteen passengers injured along the Nsawam-Suhum road near Kyerewere on Thursday morning. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver, allegedly overspeeding, lost control when one of the vehicle’s tires burst unexpectedly, causing a chaotic scene on the busy route.

As the driver attempted to apply the brakes following the burst tire, the sprinter swerved violently off the road, veering into nearby bushland. The abrupt maneuver sent three passengers tumbling from the vehicle, with one woman sustaining additional injuries as her leg became trapped between the car’s doors.

According to emergency responders at the scene, three of the passengers suffered critical injuries and were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the vehicle’s mate may have lost his life in the accident, though authorities have not yet verified this information.

A local resident who witnessed the accident described the alarming sequence of events. “I was nearby eating when I heard the sudden, loud pop of a tire bursting. I ran out and saw the sprinter swerving uncontrollably into the bush. The speed at which it was going made it impossible for the driver to regain control,” he recounted. “Three people fell out of the vehicle, and I helped one woman whose leg was caught between the doors. It was terrifying to see how quickly things happened.”

Emergency response teams and the police quickly arrived on the scene, working to assist the injured and launch a preliminary investigation. Authorities are focusing on whether the driver’s alleged speeding played a role in the accident, as overspeeding remains a major contributor to road accidents on Ghana’s highways.
