Paul Adom Otchere has hit back at Multimedia on interviews that was done on some challenges that people are facing with the free SHS. The interview was done on the super morning show with three witnesses who claimed to be a student, a Head teacher, and a parent.
According to the interview, the student described the ordeal she had to go through when she was in the classroom, at the dormitory, and at assembly halls, and the bad nature of the food that was being prepared for the students. She described those as hindrances to her studies. However, the interview did not feature any response or comments from the authority involved.
In Good Evening Ghana hosted on Metro TV on Thursday night 27th May 2021, Paul could not agree with the multimedia group for such an investigative blunder. “You can’t stop errors from happening in a big institution like education, but the minister sits in Accra, the director general is in Accra, the regional directors are in their capital cities of the regions. He doesn’t know, and will not know things happening everywhere, so that’s why media is important. So media picks it up, you have to necessarily report it to them. But if you publish it without a mechanism to solve the problem then what are we doing?”, Paul questioned.
He further pointed out that no one is doubting what the child is saying but it is unclear whether that child is truly a student and that creates opaque huddles for the story. He urged the media that, in doing a good story like that, they should inform the authorities and get their side of it so that when they publish the authority’s response will also feature.
