General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said he is ready and willing to hold the fort as running mate to John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming 2020 general elections.
Mr. Aseidu Nketia in an interview with GHOne TV monitored by ABC News said his goal is to see the NDC win elections in 2020 and if standing as a running mate will make that happen, he is in for it.
Responding to a categorical question on whether he is interested in being the running mate to John Dramani Mahama or not, Mr. Aseidu Nketia said “Yes,” adding that ” I am interested in getting the NDC win elections .if in the opinion of the party they think that I should carry that mantle, I am ready for it.”
Mr. Nketia is of the view that political positions are responsibilities and not something to be enjoyed. Hence, he is ready to take up the task for the NDC.
”I don’t think the way people look at political positions as things that ought to be enjoyed. I don’t look at political positions like that. I see positions as responsibilities. So if you are asking me whether I am ready to carry that responsibility, I say yes. I am ready to carry that responsibility. If in the opinion of the flagbearer and others, I should carry it to enhance our chances of winning, I won’t run away from it,” He added.
He, however, averred that he is not in any way campaigning for the position because it is the decision of the flag bearer, NEC as well as the Council of Elders of the party.
”Beyond that, I am not campaigning to be running mate because it doesn’t take a campaign to be a running mate. It is the decision of the running mate and the council of elders and National Executive Committee that is why you haven’t seen me going anywhere telling anybody that I want to be running mate,” he said
