I have cursed VGMA – Patapaa

Patapaa Amisty, a popular musician from Ghana renowned for his song “One Corner,” has suggested that Charterhouse, the company responsible for organising the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, may have been cursed by the gods.

In a recent interview with Hitz FM, Patapaa addressed his ongoing sorrow over the 2018 VGMA, where he lost the prestigious Most Popular Song of the Year title to Fancy Gadam’s “Total Cheat.”

The musician, whose real name is Justice Amoah, said he believed God had cursed the VGMA organisers as a result of their conduct during the awards event.

“I can see that God has placed a curse on the organizers of VGMA because of what they did to me. I don’t want to go far,” he pointed out.

He refrained from providing further details on the matter but conveyed that the perceived curse was a form of punishment for causing pain to someone.

“If I want to go far, then I will say this, when we say curse, it means you are being punished for causing pain to someone. I don’t want to say it,” he said on the show.

According to the outspoken artiste, a clear example is the Amakye Dede controversy where he was allegedly coerced into crowning Kuami Eugene as his successor even though he was not prepared to honor.

“I would want to use Amakye Dede’s issue as an example but I don’t want to say it. They forced Amakye Dede to crown someone when he was not ready to do that”, he added.

Patapaa was nominated for a VGMA in 2018 among other well-known performers including Ebony, KiDi, Kwami Eugene, Joe Mettle, and Captain Planet, whose song caused a stir and spread to other nations.

Patapaa publicly criticised the awards committee after the VGMA defeat, accusing them of accepting bribes to honour undeserving performers.

He expressed his displeasure and swore never again to accept a nomination from the VGMA.
