The fight against corruption is not going to be easy. Indeed, the act is vehemently operationalized by politicians, technocrats and ordinary citizens. This made one Ghanaian register his displeasure about the menace and the way forward.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah was reacting to questions about the roads on yesterday’s “Good Evening Ghana” with Paul Adom Otchere. As he was making his submission on Facebook live, Emmanuel Mensah Amoah told the minister and member of Parliament for Ofoase that the best way to truncate the making of terrible roads is by taking out the percentage MPs take from contractors before awarding road contracts.
In case you didn’t know, it is alleged that every road contract won by contractors have a percentage given to the Member of Parliament in the district. In this case, the amount of money to be spent on the road will be insufficient because there are too many mouths to feed. Again, the member of Parliament for that district cannot call the contractor to order if he messes around.
Ghana deserves better roads and this is not certainly the best path to chart in achieving impressive roads and infrastructure. As we ride on the “Ghana Beyond Aid” mantra, let’s add “Ghana Beyond Corruption.”
