Bankroller of King Faisal FC Alhaji Karim Grunsah has alleged that Asante Kotoko are the first Ghanaian club to be involved in match-fixing.
The veteran football administrator often regarded as controversial made the allegations in an interview with Kumasi-based radio station Kessben FM.
“Kotoko is the first Ghanaian club involved in match-fixing. Yes, they are the first club to practice such an act,” Alhaji Grunsah is quoted by kickgh.
“There was no league in 1957. All the fixed matches planned by Kotoko was in 1958 where they decided not to let Kumasi Cornerstones FC win their first-ever Ghana Premier League title”
“Kotoko had the perception that Cornerstones FC was a feeder club for their arch-rivals Hearts of Oak. They defeated Cornerstones to aid Hearts of Oak to win the 1958 Ghana Premier League with 20 points”, the ace football administrator added.
“Cornerstones FC was to be crowned the champions of the league but Asante Kotoko defeated them on their last fixture leaving them with only 19 points.”
The King Faisal boss blamed Asante Kotoko for the collapse of most clubs in the Ashanti Region.
“Kotoko have collapsed all clubs in the Ashanti Region such as Cornerstones FC, Adansiman FC, Kum Apem Stars and others.”
This will not be the first time Alhaji Grunsah has made such bribery allegation after suggesting in 2014 that there were attempts by Asante Kotoko to fix a match between the two clubs.
