List of female presidential running mates in Ghana since 1992

Today, July 6, 2020, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Mahama, announced Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang as his running mate for the 2020 presidential election.

Whilst she becomes the first to play such a role in the party’s history, the former Education Minister becomes the eighth in the history of Ghana’s politics to serve as a running mate.

Here are all the females who once served as running mates for various political parties since 1992.

  2. Petra Amegashie, running mate of Dan Lartey – GCPP (2000)
  3. Patricia Ameku, running mate of Emmanuel Ansah Antwi – DFP (2008)
  4. Cherita Sarpong, running mate of Dr. Abu Sakara Foster – CPP (2012)
  5. Eva Lokko, running mate of Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom – PPP (2012)
  6. Helen Matervi, running mate of Dr. Hassan Ayariga – PNC (2012)
  7. Brigitte Dzogbenuku, running mate of Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom – PPP (2016)
