Joe PeeThe flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has confessed to peddling falsehoods during campaign periods.
Speaking to a cross-section of some chiefs in his Volta Regional tour, the former President said that “As politicians, before the masses can accept you and endorse you, you will have to do the unthinkable. You have to go beyond what you yourself believe you can do. If you have to lie to them, you do so, and this is our way of doing things as political actors.”
Mahama, who has been on a subtle campaign tour of the Volta Region despite Government’s directives which restrain political activities, has been on a promising spree to the electorate.
He told the gathering that if given the mandate, he would create permanent and dignified jobs for the teeming youth in the region and across the country.
Meanwhile, it was under his administration that the Unemployed Graduates Association was birthed due to joblessness in the system.
Mr. Mahama is also pledging to pay all the locked-up funds of all those who invested in MenzGold and other financial institutions which went bust.
It could be recalled that thousands of Ghanaians during his reign invested in DKM, God is Love, Jasta Motors, Care for Humanity and others and these establishments went under. Mahama never paid the depositors but he is promising to do so if votes for.
The NDC flagbearer has also said that he will embark on a massive industrial drive to change the economic dynamics of the country. Meanwhile, even the Komenda Sugar Factory which he built produced no sugar and became an industrial albatross on the state.
The mouthwatering promises of Mahama are in sync with his confession that for a political leader to win an election, he must lie to the people. It only goes to show that the NDC flagbearer is only doing what he knows best, lying to the people for their votes.
